“Mga Pagpipilian sa Cryptocurrency -Cryptocurrency Alerto”

I am resident in Nigeria and have been trying to sign-up with some exchanges to be able to buy Ether. But the exchanges keep declining my sign-up, claiming they are not available in Nigeria at this time, but could be in the future.

In the United States, electronic money is governed by Article 4A of the Uniform Commercial Code for wholesale transactions and the Electronic Fund Transfer Act for consumer transactions. Provider’s responsibility and consumer’s liability are regulated under Regulation E.[30][31]

Transaction fees for cryptocurrency depend mainly on the supply of network capacity at the time, versus the demand from the currency holder for a faster transaction. The currency holder can choose a specific transaction fee, while network entities process transactions in order of highest offered fee to lowest. Cryptocurrency exchanges can simplify the process for currency holders by offering priority alternatives and thereby determine which fee will likely cause the transaction to be processed in the requested time.

“Right now, crypto-currencies are used for buying fentanyl and other drugs so it is a rare technology that has caused deaths in a fairly direct way. I think the speculative wave around ICOs [initial coin offerings] and crypto-currencies is risky for those who go long.”

You give too much credit to governments’ ability to ban anything and expecting the ban to wipe it out. What did prohibition do to the price of alcohol? What’s the street value of illicit drugs? What’s the value of cryptographically protected remodeled smart phones? What’s the value of anything that is suddenly made scarce by a government ban?

At this point, the product is open to only accredited investors because the company wants to wait on more clarity from the Securities and Exchange Commission on bitcoin-linked financial products, which the SEC pumped the brakes on.

Unlike IPOs, however, ICOs are catnip for scammers. They are not formally regulated by any financial authority, and exist in an ecosystem with few checks and balances. OneCoin loudly trumpeted its use of blockchain technology, but holes in that claim were visible long before international law enforcement took notice. Whereas Gnosis had experienced engineers, endorsements from known experts, and an operational version of their software, OneCoin was led and promoted by known fraudsters waving fake credentials. According to a respected blockchain engineer who was offered a position as OneCoin’s Chief Technology Officer, OneCoin’s “blockchain” consisted of little more than a glorified Excel spreadsheet and a fugazi portal that displayed demonstrably fake transactions.

To Groce, bitcoin was an inevitable evolution in money. People use printed money less and less as it is, he said. Consumers need something like bitcoin to take its place. “It’s like eight-tracks going to cassettes to CDs and now MP3s,” he said.

There have been many attempts at creating a digital currency during the 90s tech boom, with systems like Flooz, Beenz and DigiCash emerging on the market but inevitably failing. There were many different reasons for their failures, such as fraud, financial problems and even frictions between companies’ employees and their bosses.

Soft electronic currencies are the opposite of hard electronic currencies. Payments can be reversed. Usually when a payment is reversed there is a “clearing time.” This can take 72 hours or more. Examples of soft currencies are PayPal and any type of credit card. A hard currency can be “softened” with a third party service.[63]

A cryptocurrency (or crypto currency) is a digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange that uses cryptography to secure its transactions, to control the creation of additional units, and to verify the transfer of assets.[1][2][3] Cryptocurrencies are a type of digital currencies, alternative currencies and virtual currencies. Cryptocurrencies use decentralized control[4] as opposed to centralized electronic money and central banking systems.[5] The decentralized control of each cryptocurrency works through a blockchain, which is a public transaction database, functioning as a distributed ledger.[6]

As the popularity of and demand for online currencies has increased since the inception of bitcoin in 2009,[50][51] so have concerns that such an unregulated person to person global economy that cryptocurrencies offer may become a threat to society. Concerns abound that altcoins may become tools for anonymous web criminals.[52]

Unless you have a lot of money to blow and are a risk seeker, you should probably stick to a safer investment portfolio. Maybe buy a few if you want to try it out, but it’s definitely still considered a grey zone in the financial world.

One caveat here: as with any investment there are risks and you could lose your investment. I’m only sharing my investment thesis and approach here to help decipher the emerging digital/crypto currency landscape. This is not investment advice. Do your own research and discover what works for you.

Twitter Scammers Are Impersonating Famous People to Steal Your Crypto: Just like with the Nigerian Prince, if it sounds too good to be true, it’s probably a scam. What’s happening is people are sending crypto to addresses they believe to be owned by high profile figures like Elon Musk who promise to give them much more back. Some of you may be thinking “wow, who would ever fall for this?”. Apparently, a lot of people: so many that Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin changed his username to “No I’m not giving away ETH”.

Consumers have greater ability now to purchase goods and services with bitcoins directly at online retailers and and using bitcoin-purchased gift cards at bricks and mortar stores. The currency is being traded on exchanges, and companies have even made investments in virtual currency-related ventures. These activities portray a technically well-established virtual currency system, but there is still no uniform international legal law covering the use of bitcoin. The Ethereum platform has enabled many companies to raise tens (or even hundreds) of millions of dollars in funding for their own Ethereum-based projects. This has further increased Ethereum’s value, reaching around half of Bitcoin’s market cap this year.

It’s a problem of weak computer security (exploits, backdoors aso.), which allows malware to install and run on someone’s computers. “Illicit” mining is just one of the applications of malware, not the root cause of the problem. “Illicit” mining just exposes the problem, which is a good thing since it forces OS and network devs to improve computer security. If there were no cryptocurrencies, something else would exploit those weaknesses.

This is another open source cryptocurrency which introduces something new into the crypto world: instant transactions. Originally introduced to the cryptocurrency market as Darkcoin, this currency was renamed Dash on March 25th, 2015. Unlike other currencies, Dash uses X11 as a chain hashing algorithm for its proof-of-work system. It was one of the currencies which started with a set of pre-mined coins, estimated to be about 1.9 million coins which are equal to about a quarter of the current Dash coin supply. The developer of Dash faced his fair share of issues when working with Dash, one of which was known as an “instamine” error. After resolving the problem, the developer suggested a re-launch of the cryptocurrency but the community strongly insisted on leaving everything as it is and progressing with the development of the currency. At one point, Evan Duffield, the lead developer and creator of Dash, suggested that an airdrop of Dash was needed to broaden the initial distribution of the coin. This was also overwhelmingly rejected by the community. The Dash community is one of the most active around the cryptocurrency side of the internet, and the current capitalization of Dash is over $500 million USD. 1. The Digital Currency Index (DCI) is a price-weighted average of 30 significant digital currencies traded on Major Exchanges (Kraken or Bittrex). The DCI was launched in July 2017 to serve as a benchmark for the Digital Currency Industry.
Still, Lewis Solomon, a professor emeritus at George Washington University Law School, who has written about alternative currencies, argues that creating bitcoin might be legal. “Bitcoin is in a gray area, in part because we don’t know whether it should be treated as a currency, a commodity like gold, or possibly even a security,” he says.
I suggest you buy Bitcoin in Nigeria – I know there are several good Bitcoin exchanges located there – and then exchange these Bitcoin for Ethereum at a crypto-only exchange like Poloniex or Cryptopia.co.nz. These crypto-only exchanges don’t care where you’re from. Other options for faster and simpler exchange include Changelly.com and Shapeshift.io
